Field trip to Muir Creek in Sooke to look for bivalve fossils (beach side) and theres some pannable gold dust on the land side.

Suggested things to bring:

  • Water (for drinking)
  • Rock hammer (I have 2 extras)
  • Safety glasses (eye protection)
  • Gloves
  • Hiking boots or good treaded running shoes (I recommend the boots)
  • Masks (not a bandana) for covid – optional for outdoor trips as long as social distancing is maintained
  • Backpack for collecting

Meeting place: Juan de Fuca Rec Centre in front of the Senior’s Centre at 9:30 am.

If you live in Sooke, you may prefer to meet the group at Muir creek at 10.00 am. There’s no parking lot but there is a pull-off to the side of the road. From the road the group will go towards the sea and Gordon beach to look for fossils in the cliffs.

It’s anticipated that the trip will last for 2-3 hours, but you are free to depart at any time.
